A "Typical" Summer Day on Martha's Vineyard
a Photo Essay by John Piekos

Arrive on the SSA's Martha's Vineyard ferry.

Or perhaps sail (or kayak) to the Island!

There are many road races through out the year on Martha's Vineyard.  The Chilmark 5K, held in August, is one of the most popular, with close to 1600 runners competing for the chance to win a lobster or some fudge!

John finishes 57th in the 2006 race.

Scott finishes 12th, amazingly missing a shot at some fudge, the age group prize.

Edgartown Harbor is bustling with boat activity.

Many beach-goers partake in the Vineyard summer tradition of jumping of Memorial Bridge on State Road/State Beach.

Onlookers view this jumper's canonball attempt.

Keep your rods rigged up.  Even in the summer the beaches can host bluefish blitzes.

The perfect beach day continues with many opportunities for beachcombing for shells and pretty rocks.

Beautiful sandcastles, transient in nature, often can be found along the popular beaches.  Courtney, do you remember this sandcastle?  "It's not dark enough yet..."

Fish can be found almost anywhere on the shores of the Island.  One  of the best places to fish, featuring  remote beautiful stretches of beach, is East Beach on Chappaquiddick.

An early evening cookout on South Beach caps a perfect day at the beach.

Sometimes early evening (after the cookout) provides an opportunity to catch a bluefish or a striped bass.  Sometimes it doesn't (this angler struck out).

A beautiful South Beach sunset caps a perfect Vineyard Summer Day.
